Patrick is a Business Development Manager at The Post-Standard in Syracuse. Prior to joining the The Post-Standard, Patrick was an outside sales rep for RCI Long Distance. He graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a B.S. in Marketing.


Patrick is a member of S.C.O.R.E., the Diversity Committee and the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce. He earned outstanding sales achiever at the paper in 1994 and 1995, as well as salesperson of the year in 1996. He has held the position of President since June of 2009.


Diane Lahr-Smith, First Vice President

Advertising Director
Finger Lakes Times, Geneva

Diane is the Advertising Director at the Finger Lakes Times in Geneva, New York. Prior to her current position, she was an Advertising Consultant. Before that, Diane was the General Manager of WGYA/WECQ radio stations.


Diane sits on the Board of Directors for the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce and the Ontario County Chamber of Commerce. She is also on the Athena Awards Committee. She has held the position of First Vice President since June of 2009.


Charmaine Ushkow, Second Vice President

Charmaine joined the Real Estate sales team at the Times Union in Albany in June of 2009. Prior to that she served as the newspaper's Advertising Training Manager for the display and classified sales representatives, and was the Zones Sales Manager/New Business Development from 2004 to 2008. Before joining the newspaper, she had over 25 years in broadcast and cable television advertising sales and management. She has also won assorted advertising sales awards.


Charmaine is a member of Ad Club, AWRT, AMA and various chambers. She has held the position of Second Vice President since June of 2009.


Gregory Appel, Treasurer

Major and National Accounts Manager
Ottaway Newspapers, Middletown

Gregory has been in the advertising business for 30 years. Following a three year stint with the US Army, serving in Germany, Greg started his advertising career in New York City as a media planner and then transitioned into the print media and market research industry.


The expansion of Greg’s career led him into National Newspaper Advertising Sales working for both Branham and CWO&O. During the consolidation and demise of the National Newspaper Representative Business, Greg was hired by the Colorado Press Association, in Denver, and served as their Director of Advertising for 4 years.


In 1999 Greg moved back to New York to be closer to his family and worked as the Major and National Accounts Manager for the Times Herald Record in Middletown New York.


Greg was then recruited by Journal Register Company and is the Advertising Director for the Daily Freeman in Kingston, New York, only to return to Ottaway Newspapers as the Major and National Accounts Manager in early 2009.


Greg has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Rochester Institute of Technology. He resides in Port Jervis, New York with his wife Annamarie.

Debra has been the Advertising Director for The Post-Journal in Jamestown, New York since 1993.


John B. Johnson, Delegate Council

John is the Advertising Director at the Watertown Daily Times in Watertown, New York. He joined NYNAME's Delegate Council in 2008.


Brian Krohn, Delegate Council

The Recorder, Amsterdam

Brian is the Advertising and Marketing director for The Recorder in Amsterdam, NY where he has lived his whole life. Brian is a graduate of AHS and FMCC, and joined NYNAME’s Delegate council in 2008.


Brian started working at the Recorder in 1987 in various part-time positions before becoming a retail advertising sales rep, and then classified automotive sales rep, a position he held for 15 years before being promoted to Advertising Director.


Along with the daily paper in Amsterdam he manages the sales staff of 5 weekly newspapers in upstate NY and in the Adirondacks.


Meredith Patton, Delegate Council

Observer, Dunkirk

Meredith has been the Advertising Director of the Observer in Dunkirk for 8 years and with Ogden Newspapers for 28 years. She serves on the board of the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Northern Chautauqua County Community Foundation. Meredith has been a member of NYNAME since 2001.


Michael Anderson, Advisory Council

Mike is the Advertising Manager at the Cortland Standard in Cortland, New York. He has been at the newspaper since 1983. He is also a graduate of SUNY Oswego.
Mike is the President of the Cortland City Improvement Corporation and serves on the board of the Cortland County Convention and Visitor's Bureau.


Doug Hill, Advisory Council

The Leader-Herald, Gloversville

Doug is the Advertising Director at The Leader-Herald in Gloversville, New York. Prior to joining the Herald staff in 2000, Doug held various positions at The Recorder in Amsterdam, including ad rep, weekly ad manager and circulation director.


Doug is a member of the Kiwanis and Rotary Friends of the Mayfield Library. Prior to serving on the Advisory Council, Doug held the position of President of NYNAME until June of 2009.
